Tradition Meets Innovation: Crafting Sake for the Future
Nakazawa Shuzo, established in 1825 (Bunsei 8), is dedicated to honest sake production with the motto of “no pretension, no arrogance.” The representative brand "Matsumidori" was named after the Okubo family, who were the feudal lords of the Odawara domain, and it signifies the beautiful scenery surrounding Matsuda. The “Matsu” refers to the pine trees lining the Sakawa River next to the brewery, “Bi” symbolizes the beautiful landscapes of Matsuda Town and this fine sake, and “Tori” represents the shape of a sake vessel.
The 11th generation, Ryo Kagiwada, continues the nearly 200-year-old family tradition while embracing innovative sake-making techniques, focusing on careful yeast selection and maintaining the traditional handcrafted methods passed down through generations.
