Kikuzakari Shuzo
【Brewing Sake Locally Once Again!】

Kikuzakari Shuzo Co., Ltd. is the only sake brewery in Kitakami City, with its brewery located in Saraki, Kitakami, Iwate Prefecture. The president is Takuya Fujimura, and the master brewer is Toichi Takahashi.

Kikuzakari Shuzo was founded in 1894 (Meiji 27). Its origins trace back to Seiichi Fujimura, the first-generation founder, who established the brewery under the name “Fujimura Shuzoten” in Saraki Village, Towa District (present-day Saraki, Kitakami City, Iwate Prefecture). The company adopted its current name, Kikuzakari Shuzo, in 1951 (Showa 26).

Kikuzakari Shuzo had continued brewing sake in Kitakami City, but in 2011, the brewery that had been used since its founding was half-destroyed by the Great East Japan Earthquake. After that, the company continued sake production at a former brewery in neighboring Hanamaki City that had gone out of business. In 2024, however, a new brewery was built on its original site, marking Kikuzakari Shuzo’s return to Kitakami City for the first time in about 13 years.
